To some freeing up almost 1GB of harddrive space may not be a big deal, to others, with say a laptop that has a smaller harddrive it is. None the less Vista update SP1 includes a tool to remove around 800 MB of files that the installation leaves behind. The drawback to removing them however is, once you have removed them, you can no longer remove SP1 update if you should so choose to later on. You would have to either re-install Vista or re-image your harddrive, that being said, you are forewarned.
How to use the SP1 File Removal Tool to get rid of the 800 MB or so of files that the SP1 installation leaves on your hard drive, all you have to do to run it is type vsp1cln.exe at the command line or in the Run box, and hit enter.
You will then get this dialog box, again warning you that SP1 will be permanent on your computer.
If you agree then enter the letter "y"
