New Virus

Postby wpsr2005 » Sun Dec 21, 2003 2:35 am

Hello, Iam fairly new to this site, but iam not new to computing. I work for a school district here in San Antonio, and we had a major virus problem about 2 weeks ago. We had to complety shut down all of our servers and we are still not back up yet. The same Virus struck Texas A&M about 2 days later. Now this is as far as it went, i do belive. But the child that did this is out on bail. So you may want to be carful.

As augie said, welcome to pro net. What exactly does the virus do? It sounds like it really did a number on the network. :(:(

Trojan.Xombe

Postby MinusDriver » Tue Jan 13, 2004 4:19 pm

We got the Trojan.Xombe virus this week. It's one of the emails that says:

From: windowsupdate@microsoft.com
Subject: Windows XP Service Pack 1 (Express) - Critical Update.
Attachment: winxp_sp1.exe(4,096 KB)

Dang office employees dont know any better and downloaded it. It was the one employee with laptop so definitions weren't updated yet. Sigh

Man that is a clever virus. But just for future note, Microsoft usually attaches a link to the security part of their website with info on the email they sent. Usually they have a list of emails they send out, and they have a section where you can contact a security rep. if you are unsure of the email. :dontgetit

I'm just curious...how many of you are getting bombarded by the one that claims to be from PayPal...I'm getting at least 5 or 6 hits a day from that one.

You know *Starz*,
I can't say I've had much trouble with that one anymore. There was a point though about a month ago I was getting lots of emails about that one. Sorry I know it can be very fustrating and annoying. :x
