Need partitioning advice

Sorry, I saw your first line and thought you were then giving me advice on how to create a dual-boot.

Oh well, I'm in the middle of the operations now.

At any rate, the point when I began using PM there was no Vista partition on there anymore. Disk Management deleted it and it was unallocated space.

So far it successfully converted the FAT to logical, formatted it, converted it to NTFS, deleted it, extended it into XP, and now XP is extending into the former Vista partition.

oops -- best try and remember I **still** don't write like a Journalist and I **still** don't put everything in the top line ;)

Yes but when you install Vista to a hard drive, the new NTFS is applied to the drive in its entirety, not just the Vista partition

You're probably safe at this point, but managing this affair using PM was a very risky undertaking :whistle

Honestly, delete PM from ALL of your computers, and use the Paragon instead from now on :yesnod:

Hmm well I don't understand why PM is working, then.

That I will definitely do. Anything is better than Norton, especially if it's free. :yesnod:

PM is definitely NOT the worst of the legacy 3rd party partition managers, and it seems to work in about 80% of cases, especially if one proceeds as you have done by using native Windows tools to delete Vista-specific partitions beforehand ;)

But we *have* seen cases where people have used PM "safely" and it's **still* screwed up their drives and data :(
