You won't be able to do much with it as far as upgrading. It problably runs at 66mhz fsb. With out seeing the specs my guess is problably 733mhz is as high as you could go as far as a new processor.

Here is a page that gives the specs on your system...Here

You'll not have a lot of luck upgrading the processor...but the memory is the key on systems like this. You can add more to it...but I would also think about re-installing the OS(do a "Nuke-N-Pave) without using the "recovery CD" that came with the system). HP loads a bunch of stuff that you don't really need (or use) in their base system. So if you just load the OS and what you really want to use in the way of software...tehn the system will run a lot better!

As mentioned earlier...256m of RAM will make a large difference in the way the system runs...you'll more than likely have to buy 2 sticks of 128m RAM and replace what you have in there already. It comes with 96m from HP...probably a 64 and a 32. So pulling them and putting in 2-128's will make a difference...but the system will still be sluggish if all the "junk" is left intact.

It's a good bet that maintenance on a computer is done on a sporadic basis...if at all! So cleaning it out on an annual basis is a good bet...back up your personal data and things you can't do without....and blow off the system and re-install it! If you get your "ducks in a row" BEFORE you start this process...it's not that hard...but ti does take some thought and preparation to make it go smoothly.

also i know how to maintain a computer. i use regscrubxp, ad aware, clear temporary files, dafrag and other maintenance on a weekly basis. i dont need to be talked down to like someone who doesnt know their ps2 port from their usb port.

If you're gonna get nasty, why ask questions in the first place? It seems that you know it all already.

Please use a nicer tone. You may get a performance boost by installing win2000 or 98, since they require alot less resouces than xp.

Enough posts in this thread guys, it looks like it's come to a conclusion and any further posts would yield no results.
