My other oses keep getting corrupted

My other oses keep getting corrupted

Postby qbnito » Mon May 11, 2009 10:37 pm

I had Windows xp on the root drive. That is, drive C: I then installed VISTABOOT PRO ON THE XP OS. I installed Windows vista on another primary partition on a different drive and added the os to the vista boot pro. I then installed windows 7 RC on another primary partition on the root drive. They all boot but win 7 and vista keep getting corrupted. And I have to keep running scandisk because of the corruption.

It seems that all boot managers are a piece of crap. I got this one because I thought that it was going to be better than Acronis, which is a piece of S____
It seems that you have to be a rocket scientist to do something as simple as having multiple oses on the same computer.
Can anyone help me please. :-x :-? :no

First of all VBP is not a bootmanager, it is an easier way to edit the BCD store.

If you installed XP first as you have said and then installed Vista and Windows 7 in that order as you say, Vista and Windows 7 would themselves add XP and then Vista and then Windows 7 to the Boot Manger that is part of Vista and Windows 7.

When you installed the OS's did you have all the harddrives installed etc. or did you unplug harddrives as you went along?

The issues you mention would likely be caused by either hardware problems or partitioning errors.

If you have created your Vista and W7 partitions using any older 3rd party partitions management software package (including most versions of Acronis), then partitioning errors and corruption can be a likely outcome. I personally would recommend using either the native Windows partitions creation tools, or Paragon Partition Manager 8.5 or later, even the free version on their website works well -- although there are some other recent partitions management software packages that would be Vista/W7-friendly (the issue being that Vista/W7 use an updated NTFS that the older software packages cannot handle properly).

Otherwise, continuous partitioning errors can be caused by hardware I/O failures -- and most likely NOT by any boot management or BCD management software. Hope that helps.

Re: My other oses keep getting corrupted. THANKS BUT NEW PROBLEM

Postby qbnito » Sat May 16, 2009 2:44 pm

:notworthy Thank you all for your advice. I installed Paragon partition and boot manager and fixed all the corruption problems.
However, when I boot up, I have both win xp and vista, but I use vista more and xp is always the first choice.
When I try to change the boot order using Vista Boot pro and click "MANAGE OS ENTRIES" I get the following message:
See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.
For example:
<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>
When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

I don't know what all this means but I'm unable to select the boot order, though I can use all the other parts of the program. If I try to set the boot order from Windows Vista, all the oses get corrupted again.
Any one know what to do?
I would appreciate an answer, Thanks :-? :bashhead :-? :-?
