messed up with many OS selection menus

Postby DEVILSAN on Fri Aug 08, 2008 2:27 am

I have win XP preinistalled on my c drive which GRUB made as secondary os when i install Kubuntu distro of linux , as Kubuntu is piece of crap i want to remove it, since today i read about gOS i tried Installing it by Install it inside my XP but that lead me to multiple instances of GRUB and gOS still doesnt boot up & kubuntu instead of gOS loads ,

i want to get rid of GRUB menus but i guess MBR points to GRUB which is on D: drive where kubuntu is installed.

I just want to keep XP with no OS choice menu.

Boot to your XP disc
Goto the recovery console

type "fixmbr"
hit enter
reboot

That should repair your master boot record

Can you post your boot.ini file?

You may have to go to Control panel\folder options then on the view tab put a check in "show hidden files and folders" and remove the check in "Hide protected operating system files"

Code: Select all

;Warning: Boot.ini is used on Windows XP and earlier operating systems.
;Warning: Use BCDEDIT.exe to modify Windows Vista boot options.
;
[boot loader]
timeout=15
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN /FASTDETECT
c:\wubildr.mbr="Ubuntu"

But before this option of menu selectioni get GRUB OS selection... the one that is above occurs twice.

Do you have vista on your computer too? Just wondering why BCDEDIT is referenced in your post.
