Also in that D partition is the Boot folder and all its contents also from the same time last night. Sheesh. This install really got botched.

Actually thats not botched. Any Windows operating system will place its boot system files on the system drive/partition.

All I want to do is get back to where I was. Conditions were:

1. XP and VistaB2 as my only two boot options.
2. Booting RTM required me to have the DVD in the drive and then it ignored the other two which booted into RTM without any options.

I suggest you unplug your new drive for now and then run Startup repair from the Vista DVD if for some reason you cannot boot to either Vista or XP. That should get you back to the position you were in before you installed RTM Ecat
