Laptop cooler

Anyone have any experience with laptop coolers.
I know they make some with fans and some without a fan. Some with fans that use US power and some I guess are AC powered.

Any suggestions?????

I still haven't found a reason to get one yet... my laptop is a beast but it doesn't seem to have a problem with heat. Sure, it gets hot, but they're made to withstand it.

I ended up getting a cheap Vantec model, runs off USB, 2 fans, cost around $15

This laptop has been abused, and it runs hot for some reason, hot enough, that after about 45 minutes to an hour it starts acting up. Since I got the cooler, I have been using it for almost 6 hours no problems.

They're better now than previously. Some of the older laptops used desktop processors in them, but didn't have nearly enough cooling capacity to keep the entire system cool, so the cpu would be the first thing to cook. I guess that laptop makers realized how dumb it was and eventually stopped using most desktop processors in laptops. Some of it was likely due to power consumption, others due to the warranty repairs and possibly lack of business as well. I'm sure that some of the ultra-cheap and low end laptops may still have some cooling issues as they aren't made necessarily to keep cool under the stresses that some people put them through. Even if it isn't completely necessary, a cooler system will run faster than a hot one, and the components will likely last longer as well, so even if there aren't any cooling issues, it could still be beneficial to use one.

isn't it hard to use a laptop when it's in the cooler? i thought coolers were for beer storage..

The trick is to make sure the laptop stays on top of the cans of beer, so when you take a can out, you have to make sure to put a can back in. :yesnod:
