I am lucky to get the inside scoop on a lot of info regarding teh gas prices. This should subside once the piplines and such get back on track.

Apparently with the opening of the reserve Bush's approval rating as dropped to its lowest ever. I don't think it was a smart move on his part to do that. That's whats causing the panic and frankly its not helping any of the gas prices right now.

LOL, I've been told I should avoid politics bc of my position here, but I will say I agree completely ;)

All I can say without trying to start a debate in a non debate section is that people have been on him constantly for not releasing oil from the oil reserve all along before this and now a real situation comes along that it is needed for and now people are complaining about that. I mean this is what a oil reserve is for, this exact kind of situation, a temporary disruption of some supply of oil to the country. I guess it is a damned if you do damned if you don't situation.

I wish there was a throw hands up in the air smilie.

It wasn't really built below sea level. The French Quarter, where the city began, is above sea level, or it was when the city was first settled. It was in a perfect location. The problem occurred when the city began spreading to the surrounding area and the land also began sinking, while the water level also rose. That is when the levees were built.

But I was hoping we could keep this thread for pictures and put the discussion here in the discussion thread:
http://www.pronetworks.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=62130
:)

Or maybe even in the news thread:
http://www.pronetworks.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=62391
:)

That said, thanks b_a88 for the site with the satellite photos. As a someone with a Geology degree, that is exactly what I have been looking for.

Look at this. It is one of the pictures at the link b_a88 posted on the page before. It is a satellite picture of New Orleans taken yesterday. The green is water:

NOTE: I have merged 4 different threads that were mainly pictures and video here in the Geography & Weather forum. It would be good if we could keep pictures and video in this thread, with some discussion of course as they relate to the pictures. There is also a separate general discussion thread here:
http://www.pronetworks.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=62130

Thanks. :)

Here is a great site. CNN has a page where you can zoom in on any section of New Orleans and see before and after satellite pictures:
