The gas prices have just gone up like crazy. My brother drives a jeep, and normally pays $45 per fill up. I have a feeling he won't be driving much anymore.

Its times like these that make you realize we deperately need to make the push to alternative fuel. I myself will shell out $40 to drive to see my gf this weekend. No AC for me this time. This almost makes the purchase of a new and more fuel efficient car worth it.

It's gotten crazy... they are shutting down our whole fleet it appears. I work for the SCDOT (SC Department of Transportation) so we are definatley seeing the effects of this. Yesterday we made a killing in rev I immagine, but these next few weeks might be another story.

Here is a link to better satellite imagery of before and after.

<a href='http://www.digitalglobe.com/katrina_gallery.html'target='_blank'>DigitalGlobe - Hurricane Katrina Media Gallery</a>

It says on the main DigitalGlobe page that they are trying to get this in for Google Earth, Google Maps and other similar things.

Atlanta has said they have enough fuel to last us 10 days with all incomming fuel stopped. Only they already have one of the major lines, the Colonial line back to 30% or so. The lines are only lacking power to pump the refined stuff. And Venezuala, who has more refineries than we do almost is already in double overtime to get more shipped here. Prices will just go up, but since everybody is stupid and all went to get gas on the same day....

Everybody running to get gas yesterday caused the real problem. Of course gas stations cannot even store the capacity to fuel every person near by all in the same day. :( So if you ran to top of your tank yesterday, you are the only one to blame!

Sorry enough of my rant, but all through atlanta there were so many rumors. "City will shut down all gas stations at 4pm" "City is out of gas" "Rationing is going to go into effect" You should have heard all the stuff that was spread. Then the prices shot up to $5+ in some places.

Yeah, all of the people are in a panic here and getting gas when they don't need to. It's crazy. A coworker was in line for an hour this morning to get gas in Kissimmee.

Yeah I live just north of Atlanta and all the gas stations were packed with people trying to top off thier tanks. A few of the ststions around my house where out of gas this morning when I drove by, and they were selling it at 3.49 a gallon at the places that had gas.

I work off of I-285 and some of teh stations here are selling what gas they have from anywhere around 3.49 a gallon to 5.50 a gallon. Who knows what will happen next but alot of people are going over board with this filling up cars and small gas cans they have around teh house.

It is just horrible the amount of damage this caused. Do you think mother nature is trying to tell us not to live on the coast, below sea level :question

It just seems incredibly stupid to build a city below sea level near the sea. Who's idea is that? :confused

In holland we do it most of the time. :S But luckly we don't have hurricanes.

I was calculating the price to euro's, and was wondering what is normal in US for a gallon?
This price would be 1.30 Euro per liter.

People are going nuts here too... everyone and their brother filled up yesterday or the day before. I haven't filled up but once since I got the new car and only then bc I had too. I saw one gas station, right next to another at $4 a gallon while the other was $2.99. Folks are just crazy right now... I think they, along with the media, are making this worse than it has to be by a long shot.
