It looks like a war zone in that city... I mean only now can we truly appreciate the power of that storm.

And the tornado damage to the east is just unbelievable too. Georgia got torn up.

Thank you all for posting these pics. I know it isn't easy and takes a lot of time and effort.

Those of you watching CNN have undoubtedly seen hours and hours of rescues, one by one by one, off the rooftops in East New Orleans. There are miles and miles, thousands and thousands of homes, under 20 feet of water with just the rooftops poking out.

Unfortunately, the water is actually rising as we have pointed out in the news thread and earlier here, as there have now been 2 breeches in the levees which protect downtown New Orleans from Lake Pontchartrain. So what had been envisioned earlier that didn't happen, the French Quarter under water, is now in fact happening.

One thing that 911 did is to raise the level of support for rescue teams like the US Coast Guard, and this is now being put into action.

There was one pic that was quite graphic that I didn't post, it took me a while to figure out what it was. It was a very sad pic. :(

I'm worried that too many folks are deployed though. If another storm were to hit in two weeks (which very well could given the time of year), how on earth could we handle that?

Two words: Florida 2004. We had the same fears then after 2, then 3, then 4 hurricanes hit Florida within a few weeks. Of course, nothing even close to the scale of this. Let's just hope it doesn't happen.
