Is Wii worth it?

Postby scwritinglady on Fri Dec 12, 2008 10:48 pm

I've been trying very hard to even find one to buy!! How fun is the Wii for a casual gamer (I'm talking, I haven't played a video game seriously since Super Nintendo came out haha)?

The seeming interactivity looks cool and something I could just pick up and casually play for a break. Any thoughts?

Also, any idea why I can't find one?

I have played on a Wii, PS3, Xbox and really like none of them. To me it seems hard to control anything when compared to a keyboard and mouse.
On the other hand, my kids love any gaming console they touch.

I have talked with grown people that have the Wii for exercise, gaming and they tend to like it.

I myself will stick with putting that money in a FAST PC that will do it all.

Thanks NT, I'm sure for the serious gamer Wii might be a bit of a joke...but like I said I quit video games when they put more than a few buttons on them haha.

Plus I absolutely suck at Halo...not even funny...

I don't like the Wii because of the graphics. If you basically have a TV, especially LCD, that is bigger than 32" you are asking for trouble. I bought one and the next day took it back to BestBuy. I was talking to one of their rep's and they said that many people are complaining about that. I think next generation will be better but for now I will stick with my XBox 360. :yesnod:

Well, we haven't upgraded to the monster TV size yet (but knowing John it's only a matter of time!) Honestly that's kind of why I wanted to wait and buy it from a store instead of online. I can't stand restocking fees, etc.

How is the interactivity for things like Mario Kart? Do you need to buy that accessory pack with the tennis racket shaped controller, etc?

IF there are any fans out there..what do you really need to get for it?

I like the Wii. I own one and a few games, including Mario Kart. The Wii is a lot of fun and it is not hard to have fun with even though it can be hard to master one game. I think the Wii is made for people that don't want to commit to a game, they just want to be able to play it every once in awhile. If you play it too often, the game can get boring.

I like console games better than PC games because the game was made for the console. I have not been able to find any driving games for a PC that come close to what Gran Turismo can do on a console.

All I can say is, now is not the best time to buy a Wii. They sell out quickly everywhere you look and the Wii is over 2 years old. If you didn't get one a couple months ago, you may want to wait a couple more months before putting a lot of effort into finding one.

The Wii is for people who don't play video games all the time. My son bought one and we play it occaisionaly all together. We have the Wii fit thing and it will at least get you to think about exercising which I do a lot more of now.

I like the Wii sports, bowling and baseball, etc.

It is good for like when you have company that aren't avid video gamers, it is almost like bringing out a board game to play, that everyone can play.
