Internet Explorer 7 PROview: IE7 Beta 2
A new Internet Explorer 7 beta?
January 31st, 2005

Early this morning, Microsoft offically released a public beta of Internet Explorer 7. Although this is not really beta 2 (its called a beta 2 preview,) it contains many new features that were not in beta 1, which was released in June. Microsoft said, when they released beta 1, that they would release Internet Explorer beta 2 with Vista beta 2. Unfortuantely, rumors say that Vista beta 2 is dated for April. See the article here for more details.
One of the new features is a separation of the refresh and stop buttons, which before was a single button that changed depending on the page state (Loading, loaded, etc). Another nice new feature is the "Favorites center" which allows you view and visit your Favorites, RSS feeds, and History, from one panel that hangs over the website instead of creating a sidebar like in Internet Explorer 6 and below.
Security features in IE7 are greatly enhanced, and one of the best of these is the Phishing Filter. This filter runs in the background, and when you go to a site that is known for phishing, it will block it and tell you it is bad for your computer. For those that dont know, Phishing is when a web site pretends to be another site. Some examples of recent Phishing sites include fake Paypal and Banking Sites which try to get the user to input sensitive information.
There are geeks out there that are probably drooling over this article. You can download Beta 2 preview here. For those of you that dont want to install it for fear of killing IE forever, or you want to run it alongside IE 6, you can run it standalone. See the guide here.

You know this may in fact give Firefox a run for it's money... looking MUCH better than the first IE I saw.

I downloaded this build tonight after work (12MB) & burned the .exe to a CD for easy use & transfer.
Amazingly it only took between 1.5 & 2 minutes to install... then the PC restarted & IE7 was ready to go.
I had that older preview installed & it was easy to remove thru the CP using the 'Add or Remove' button & checking the 'show updates' box at the top.
The build number in the 'About Internet Explorer' window says:
Version 7.0.5296.0
Cipher Strength: 128-bit
Product ID: xxxxx-xxx-xxxxxxx-xxxxx
Update Versions: Beta 2
ieSpell works
My old 'Favorites' were still there
the 'Alt' key brings up the classic menu
The built-in Pop-up Blocker set to high does a good job.

Oh well. Updated IE. Goodness
I don't see the similarity but i do have a comment;
Who sets a standard in how an internet browser ought to look like ? Why aren't the "standard" buttons placed on the bottom of the window ? Is it because users want it up there ? Shouldn't the application serve the user ? Come on.. where is the resemblance ? IE7 is no where similar to Firefox. You might as well say that FF looks like IE since IE was in fact used long before FF. Oh and btw if you haven't noticed it yet, Firefox can be run on a Windows platform.
if i install ie7, is that going to replace or change the settings of my IE6? just making sure, before i install.

It will replace IE6, but things like history, favorities, popup blocker settings, etc should be the same.
Be nice to nerds.... chances are you will end up working for one
