I can't see the dual boot screen!
Hello there,
After getting very tired by reading too many posts that didn't help, I've finally decided to send you my issue with all the related information, so you can give me a fast fix.
I have a laptop with Vista preinstalled. Then I installed Windows XP Professional in another partition in the same drive. Afterwards, I intalled VistaBootPRO 3.3 but I still can only boot in XP!
The three files ntldr,NTDETECT.COM and boot ini are in the boot partition (XP) root.
The boot folders have been copied to the right places (that's my hope) into the XP partition too.
Next you see my drives layout:
The boot.ini file follows:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
Ant these are the BCD Registry settings (all) I can read on VistaBootPRO:

Have you now enough information to help me fix this?
Thank you very much.
Re: I can't see the dual boot screen!
Start Vista Boot Pro
click on the System Bootloader button
put a check in the Windows Vista Bootloader and All Drives, then click on the Install Bootloader button
Once that is done run Diagnostics and then click on the Manage OS Entries and you should see that you have entries for XP and Vista, the one that is blue is the one it will default to when you boot, and to get to the other OS you will have to arrow down or up to, in order to boot to it.

Re: I can't see the dual boot screen!
I'm sorry to say that, but your proposed solution didn't work. I'm still booting to Windows XP with no other options (Even having forced "install Vista bootloader").
Re: I can't see the dual boot screen!
I did not read that you have tried this, and it may work.....
From XP, go to your Vista drive (D I believe) and copy the ENTIRE contents (Folder included) of the \BOOT folder; copy this to the root of your XP Drive (C from what it appears).
Try again with VistaBootPRO and see if that fixes it

Re: I can't see the dual boot screen!
Hey, this is not a simple job! First of all I found the \boot folders were already in both drives' roots, but they had been hidden (even having selected "show hidden and system files" in Windows Explorer).
Now I'm not sure I could have made a mistake, because I copied the entire boot folder from the Windows folder (there is another one -smaller- in the Windows\System32 folder) into the root (I did that because at the moment I coudn't see any boot folder in the root).
The fact is, I'm still booting to XP only.
So what can I do now?
And thank you again.

You copied the Boot folder from the Windows\system32 folder to both or the drives root directories?
If you copied it to the root directory of your Vista drive did it overwrite the one that was already there?

Re: I can't see the dual boot screen!
No, I don't think I overwrote the original one in D:\ (the system didn't grant me access). I just added some missing folders I had in D:\Windows\Boot (not the ones in D:\Windows\System32\Boot).
Now looking at C:\Boot I can see these contents:
DVD\
Fonts\
PCAT\
PXE\
BCD
BCD (.txt)
Is there anything I can do now or there's no turning back?

Re: I can't see the dual boot screen!
The boot folder should have a lot more than that in it

Re: I can't see the dual boot screen!
Ok that looks better, it must be the difference between Vista Home Premium and Vista Ultimate or other versions.
At any rate replace the Boot folder that you copied to XP from the Windows\System32 with the one from the Vista root directory
