html question
I have an 800x600 jpg image that I want to use as the background on a webpage. Is there a way to alter its size and make it full screen no matter what resolution people use? if not, how do I code it to make it a centered background image?
I am thinking of doing something like this site
http://www.pathwaybaptist.org/
but maybe in flash
alright, dead silence from everyone.
I have discoved the hard way that making an image a full screen background does not work by making it a 100% image.
take a look at this full screen,

not bad, then resize your browser window so that it is either wider than it is tall, or vise versa.
creepy. mutilates my image, but fun to do.
ok, new plan!
how about I create the image in all different resolutions, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x960, etc, and then use javascript to detect the users resolution, and make that one the image used for the background?
would that work?
and if so, does anyone know enough about javascript to do it?
I'm open to other suggestions, I just really didn't want a website inside a small square on the screen, and my church is determined to use the above image.
LOL yeah it does look like silly putty,
I believe javascript would be the easier route, but I don't know where you could get that script, best bet would be to google it

Yeah. That method is really what you are going to get from all unless you do something like split that image into different images. For instance, you can have the speckled background as the body background, then take the "pictures" and use a div for those, and finally a div for the church. This wouldn't distort the image but would eventually cause scrollbars depending on how small the browser was.

ok, tried that.
Test it for me and tell me what you think. I got the original image from a friend, so I had him send me the .psd files. I then broke it into individual transparent images and put it all back together in div layers.
not perfect, but I think I'm on the right track. The links are just test placeholders, I havent started content yet.

is where I'm at right now. I'm wanting to make a text box on the page with a fixed width that can scroll down if needed.
any idea how?
