I built my mother-in-law a computer a few years ago, and she had some problems with it, so she had someone local replace the MB etc. Well now the key is wrong since he reloaded the drivers for the new MB and the OS etc, so is there away for her to change the key without calling MS if I give her a legit key?

XPPID.EXE has worked good for me in the past if you can still boot to XP...careful when searching and downloading as some of these things tend to be prone to having malware attached or transmit your product key.

Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder also works good.

I have used Magical Jelly Bean before too, I don't understand how you suggest it will allow me to change the key, I know it will tell me what key is in the registry, but I need to be able to change it to a legitamate key.
The guy that worked on her computer reinstalled Windows XP and used a bogus key that MS says is pirated or something to that affect, so I need to change it somehow so she can activate it, oh by the way she is in California and I am in Illinois, so I need some way that I can tell her so she can do it.

i could have sworn i have used it to change the key, but i downloaded the latest version and there is no option.

Snail mail, email, instant messenger, telephone...I can think of a few more ways too

that must have been the version i used. I downloaded it again and saved into my tools folder
