How slow will this computer run Windows 7?
How slow will this computer run Windows 7?
Compaq Presario V2565US
1.8 GHz AMD Turion 64 ML-32 (512 KB L2 cache)
80 GB hard drive
512 MB of RAM
ATI Radeon XPress 200M IGP video/graphics card with 128MB shared memory
At least I am not putting Windows Vista on it.
EDIT: Found out that it has 2GB of RAM, DDR PC2700. That will definitely help even though Windows 7 gave the computer a performance score of 1.0 because of the graphics card.

I don't think you will even be able to install W7 on a computer with less than 1GB RAM
EDIT : Oh OK just saw your edit -- probably the only way to get some half decent performance out of that would be to plug in a 2-4 GB USB Flash drive for ReadyBoost

Check this out people. Granted, you could grow very old waiting for it to install!

Although he didn't say how long it took him to install or boot the operating system, other forum users have chimed in and timed the installation for a Pentium III-based system at a low 17 continuous hours. And the boot time? 17 minutes.

Re: How slow will this computer run Windows 7?
I think it will run just fine on that system, based on the final Win 7 system requirements anyway:
* 1GHz processor (32- or 64-bit)
* 1GB of main memory
* 16GB of available disk space
* Support for DX9 graphics with 128MB of memory (for the Aero interface)
* A DVD-R/W drive
Just the graphics that may give you a problem as you mention, if it's not DX9 ready.

Come to find out, after the drivers were updated for the ATI video card, the performance score went up to 2.0 and the Aero interface is enabled.
