How can I permanently block a file without renaming it?

How can I permanently block a file without renaming it?

I run Avira AntiVirus on one of my XP installs and quite like it, except that every few days there's a notifyer that pops asking if one wants to upgrade to the Professional version. Now I've renamed the exe and the associated dll file and that does the trick for a while, but then during update a fresh copy of of each is downloaded. In the files properties I see nothing at all I can do to prevent it from running

I've blocked both the exe and the dll file in ZoneAlarm and yet it runs after updating :-?

Put a dummy file in it's place (like a renamed .txt file) and make it read only. That should do it ^*^
