Help recovering deleted data from external drive?

i have to recover lots of lost data from my external hard drive , I am using PC Inspector :no , it also shows the deleted data but when i save the shown deleted data it doesnt open and its only useless coz i cannot open it in any of its program neither any jpg or zip file nor any mov or mp3, please suggest any good software to recover data... :question

I've never used any of those you list but have successfully used Ontrack Recovery PRO many times.
