HAL.DLL missing or corrupted

Postby tadams61 » Mon Apr 04, 2011 4:02 pm

I normally come up in Windows 7 but I also have Windows XP installed because my slide scanner only has an XP driver. I last booted up on the XP side back on 3/22 without any problems. However, when I tried to boot up this morning I received an error about "(Windows root) System32/hal.dll missing or corrupted". I booted back to the Windows 7 side and took a look at the XP partition (G:). Everything looks fine, able to see HAL.DLL in the System32 folder. Ran DualBootPro 1.0 diagnostics and it didn't find anything wrong either. I see there's a new version 1.1 of DualBootPro and I'm wondering if that might resolve my problem?

Any ideas?

Have you recently updated your Bios or made any changes to it?

Make sure that your boot.ini file is pointing to the correct location for XP.

If the above two don't fix it, try running a Windows XP system restore from a command prompt
