Ok everyone is missing part 3... so here's a hint.

Think about how the Hawaiian islands work... what the geologic term for them is.

Now think about this place in the same regard. I need the name of the modern day place that is located where this place above once was. Big hint... so you all should get this one now.

I thought that "this place" was still there. Or are you asking what was there before it was formed?

Wow... brain shut down on my part. I fixed my post to take OUT the name of the place, LOL

Did the same for you Weazzle. Your guess was correct... I'm looking for the modern day equiv of where "this place (the challange today)" used to be.

BTW... quick leader board update (normally would do this on Friday, but thought you all might like to know).

Joel (Weazzle): 37
Bob (b_a88): 30
Jesse (Tboltness): 19

A few others close to the number 3 spot, and some just WAY back... someone with -3.

FYI, you all still have until this afternoon to guess this one. I will post the next image (a difficult) tonight.

Some of you must not even like to guess once it's harder... so we've had a lot of folks fall out of the weekly rankings simply by not submitting an entry at least once every 2 days.

This confuses me to no end. I have no clue what in the world you are looking for at all, infact your clue confused mw even more. I have looked for all sorts of things in google but nothing gives me any clue of what you are looking for for an answer to part #3 and I have to go some were today so I won't be able to answer today before it ends.

Hi,

I think I know the answers; at least I've narrowed it down to a few places, but my copy of Google Earth won't let me see the details of the suspects. Does any else have this problem? I'm using Google Earth Free with no known updates. If I upgraded to the "plus", would that help?

FYI, I saw Paris, Kansas City, St. Louis with good clarity.

TIA.

Certain areas just don't have the spatial resolution of others... it's not your subscription level. It's just the fact those areas haven't been spatial scanned at high res yet.

Yesterday's Answers...

1.) Idaho
2.) Crater's of the Moon National Monument
3.) Yellowstone Caldera (it's a stationary hotspot with a plate moving west on top)
4.) United States

I am suprised number 3 gave many of you problems. Like Hawaii (a hotspot) there is Yellowstone Caldera in Wyoming/Montana. It is also a hotspot and like Hawaii has a plate on top of it moving to the west. At one point in time, Crater's of the Moon was OVER the current location of the hotspot (which we all known today as Yellowstone National Park).
