I see your point well nomen.

Here we are in the US sitting on one of the biggest reserves we'd ever need in our biggest state to the white north... Alaska, yet we export a ton of it. That doesn't make a hill of beans of sense to me. Especially not with how we suck up gasoline.

I think in this country, especially in metropolitan areas, it would be better to walk in some cases. Most people aren't like myself and don't live out in the country... they live either in or near the city. And in larger cities this is especially true.

Does the USA really export oil? That doesn't make sense to me, why then would you import the same from Mexico, Venezuela and the middle east?

As for ANWR, that is a choice for you US voters; unspoiled wilderness or more and cheaper oil ;-)

I had no idea gas was so expensive other places. I live in a city and can walk to work, I only use the car for school and the supermarket. I spend about $10 every two weeks on gas, boy am I lucky or what? Things will probably be very different when this war starts.

It sure does nomen. We talked with some of the folks that worked with the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. Down in Valdez you can see them putting it on the Tankers. Some comes down into Washington State or California, but most gets sold to another country... I think Japan and the like. It really makes you wonder what exactly we are thinking.

And get this... and I could't believe this when I was told it, but it's true. Who does the United States get most of it's oil from?

Kuwait? Nope... Saudi Arabia? Nope... Mexico? Nope

Canada! Yep.... the United States recieves more oil from Canada than anywhere else. Here are the stats from Fortune 500 Magazine where one such article appeared when this was first announced.

Sheesh...I am always at the mercy ("NOT") of the fuel companies...

Have no choice in types or brands I can use...always have to use Premium at the higher priced companies...due to the fact I have headers on my truck... ...Last time I filled up gas was $1.85 a gallon...have no idea where it sits this week...haven't been yet...Guess it's a good thing I'm such a homebody...other than when the "travelin' bug hits"...I have dual fuel tanks...and have paid as much as $40 a tank in the past...At these prices I very seldom fill up both tanks anymore...

Time to start driving to Georgia again to purchase my gas...sometimes it's as much as .20 less a gallon...not worth the drive unless it's in that neighborhood...

I remember when we had gas rationing...and could only buy fuel on certain days...would sit in line for an hour or more just to fill up...geez...we thought that was bad...27 cents a gallon...

If they go much higher... they'll hit a new record again, beating out those records in 2000.

It's just crazy though. I remember when folks here would drive 30-40 miles for gas... even accross the border like you mentioned Michel.

Geez...wish I had read this whole thread before I posted...I wouldn't be complaining after reading about our neighbors across the sea...seems pretty petty now...
