Orb Networks seems to have gotten most of the bugs out of their software, as well as discarded the fee based service in favor of a free one. This is a great service for people who want to be able to share or view their media content from remote locations. With a simple install of the Orb server software on a media computer you will be able to stream live or recorded tv, schedule recordings from remote locations, access and monitor webcams, store, view and share your photos, stream your mp3 collection, as well as a number other of interesting features.
The very cool thing about this software is that it interacts very well with Windows Media Center, even allowing you to stream live tv remotely from a Media Center computer with a set top box. It allows you to remotely change channels, set recordings, access the Media Center Audio, Image, and Video files that you choose.
To view any of this media content, all you do is log onto a free user created account at orb.com and use their web based interface to select the media you would like to see or hear. The software will automatically check your connection speed as well as codecs installed on the accessing computer, and determine the best speed and format to stream the media. Of course, the better connection you have, the better the quality.
As this software just reached the 1.0 milestone there will probably be many improvements and enhacements over time. For now though it is definitely worth checking out.
