I know little about Linux, but is Gnome or your desktop software working properly? It looks to me like the OS is loaded, but your GUI is not. Try to see if you can run Gnome, or whatever GUI there is in Fedora.

The standard install is GNOME... it looks like the X-Window system is running, so I don't really know what to tell you.

Can you open the terminal?

Check your /var/log/Xorg.x.log files (x = a number 0 - however many you store per your log rotate.

Also check your /var/log/messages if you can via a ssh terminal as using the tail command with the -f option for the use of following any activity.

Hope this helps. I can't help you from here because you should check your /var/log always for important information :) You can do this via ssh if anything.

How about pointing him to upgrade f7 to f8, f8 to f9 and get the new fc10 :), easy upgrade via yum.
