Dual-booting VISTA + XP = wants WIN 7 instead of Vista!
Hi, Guys.
I have one hard drive with two partitions with two operation systems. The following:
Windows VISTA is installed on (C:)
Windows XP is installed on (D:)
---
I have used VistaBOOT Pro and it has booted both Vista and XP just fine.
I want to keep XP on my (D: partition) but install Windows 7 instead of Vista on my (C: partition).
So... how do I go about installing Windows 7 over Vista and keeping XP intact without "messing too much" with the current VistaBOOT Pro configurations that I currently use?
Thanks!

Boot to the Win7 DVD, format the partition with Vista on it and install Win 7 on that partition.
You "MAY" have to use the guide below to get XP back up and running.

Thanks NT50!
I'll try it out!
Is this process complicated if Vista is/was the the native OS that came with my computer?

Has anyone actually tried this? I am in the same situation:
C: Vista (came with laptop)
D: XP (installed with boot vista pro).
Does booting up with the Win7 DVD, formatting C:, installing on C: result in XP no longer being accessible without the XP solution referred to by a previous poster. Does the XP solution actually work?

Many of us have done this successfully. Back up your BCD with VistaBootPRO or DualBootPRO, backup your boot system files for XP (boot.ini, ntldr and NTDETECT.COM) and after installing Windows 7, replace those files and restore your BCD, and you should have no problems at all accessing XP provided you don't change drive priority or any other hard drive configuration settings.

Hello - I have a slight twist on the XP + Vista dual boot system. I want to use an upgrade version of Win7 to upgrade my Vista OS...so that I end up with XP + Win7. Is that possible? Thanks.
