Dual booting vista and xp headache

Postby solid123 » Tue Feb 13, 2007 10:23 am

I had dual boot vistarc1 on c: and xpsp2 on d:
Then i installed vista by boot dvd and hence formatted the c: by mistake and so lost the dual boot option and only vista started.
Then i reinstalled xp on D:
To check whether vista wud work i booted vista dvd n fixed its boot and again only vista booted(ws tryin to get back dual boot).
I put xp cd and ran the fixboot command and only xp booted.
I used Vistabootpro3.1 in xp uninstalled and reinstalled vista bootloader but when i ran the diagnostic it gave exception error.

[See the end of this message for details on invoking

application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.

enabled.]

When i rebooted the system last time it showed the dual boot option and vista worked but when i ran xp it gave ntldr corrupt error.

So i put the xp cd back in and ran fixboot and only xp is running.

So how can i fix this prob and please i dont want to reformat my system atleast not xp.

It looks as though something is not right with Vista at this point; seeing as you have XP working, it would be better for you to start over with Vista by completely removing Vista and the Vista bootloader from your system before trying to reinstall Vista. You can do this by simply formatiing the Vista partition from XP disk mgmt, then also removing (Deleting) the \boot directory and bootmgr directory and file from your XP partition (Should be under the root of C: if that is your XP drive)
