Dual booting instructions for person without a vista recovery cd or original dvd

Postby rushhour on Sun Aug 24, 2008 2:34 pm

Hi

I am new to the forums and was wondering if I could get a little help regarding dual-booting.

I currently have an Advent 7113 laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium pre-installed and which did not come with a recovery CD or original Vista Home Premium DVD.

I would like to know how to dual-boot with the current situation that I am in.

Thanks in advance for any replys.

Read the following guide in its entirety prior to trying it, also make sure you have a disk with all the needed XP drivers for your system, e.g. SAT-A Raid driver, network controller, etc.

Here is an excellent guide on how to install XP with pre-installed Vista

Thanks for your reply, but does this cover for me, a person who does not have a recovery CD or an original bootable windows vista dvd?

Well I have found drivers from a reliable source http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/advent/laptop/7113.htm which then directed me to a website with all the drivers on http://www.uniwill.com/UserDownload/l51ii/l51ii.php and it seems to me that the top drivers are for XP whilst the bottom drivers are for Vista, but can someone confirm this at all for me?

Thanks in advance.

They both appear to be for Vista to me, you are just given two choices for the same thing, sorry.

Are you sure? Because I've know people to be able to dual-boot with Windows Vista and XP and using these drivers and they both seem to be of different sizes if you look closely. I just want confirmation because I plan on dual-booting today. My Laptop is an Advent 7113 with pre-installed Windows Vista Home Premium.

Thanks in advance.

ok upon closer look at the "uniwill website" you are correct. The first or top links are for XP and the second or bottom links for Vista.

Thanks for confirming for me. I just needed reassuring that the top drivers were for Windows XP. May I ask why you have quote marks for Uniwill website?

There is also a link in the link in your post for "The Techguys" and the drivers on that site are for Vista, i.e. the uktsupport link, right under where is says Drivers in the first paragraph leads to the the techguys
