Dual Boot Vista and XP Drive Letter Problem

Postby Doyling on Fri Jul 03, 2009 1:54 pm

The headache I am going through, I hope somebody can help. Drinks are on me we anyone can help get this sorted out. I had originally installed XP64, then installed Vista Ultimate 64. All was well, and regardless of which OS I booted into, the booted OS was on the C: partition. This made things easier as some programs like to write to C: only.
Along the way, I had to re-install the XP 64 software. At this point, I am running out of ideas. While booting from the media and setting up, Windows shows my Vista Partition as C:, and will let me install XP, but it will default to a different letter, F or whatever. I need the booted OS to always be on C:

I tried to use Acronis Partition manager to hide the Vista partition so XP will install as C:. But that did not work. I followed the directions http://www.pronetworks.org/index.php/gu ... ows_vista/ But they skip over how to force XP to a certain letter.
My Ultimate goal is as follows:
3 OS’s installed, XP32, XP64, Vista64 Ultimate
Any OS booted, will be on the C: partition when booted.
I have seen some manuals showing how to ladder the OS’s where Each OS is lettered the same, regardless of which OS is loaded. My goal is to have whichever OS is booted, to show as C:. The other partitions can grab letters willy nilly for all I care.
