If you've upgraded to IE7 RC1 from one of the betas, or you're just sick of IE7 and want to unistall, you may have run in to some problems. I know I have. If you get stuck, during the uninstall on Updating Registry, here is the fix.

End task for spuninst.exe. If you are installing an upgraded version, the install will fail. DO NOT FOLLOW THE GIVEN INSTRUCTIONS.

If upgrading: Go to %systemroot%/System32/(IE7 Folder, look for IE7 in the name)/spunist. Note: You may need to show hidden files.

Open spuninst.inf in notepad. Find the sections with [Reg.Restore.Keys] and [Reg.Delete.Keys] in the name. Rename them to [xReg*].

Reboot.

Run install/uninstall again. It will be sucessful.

If uninstalling: Follow steps 1 and 2 above.

Copy and paste the contents of the [reg] sections in to a text file.

Follow steps 3 and 4 above.

Remove the indicated Registry entries from the registry. Add the new ones. Have fun, there are a lot.
