Cd-Rom Event ID 11 I/O Device Error

Postby fw2036 on Sun Sep 07, 2008 12:59 pm

Hey guys, so i just went and got that new Spore game today and I am having problems with my CD-rom drive just reading the CD. I am running it on a reasonably old Alienware machine with a CD and a DVD-rom drive, and this CD will not run in either drive. When I click the drive it says,

"E:\ is not accessible.
The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error."

I checked in the system event log viewer and its showing up as Event ID 11, but everytime i look up the code it shows different devices, and the only cd-rom event id 11 log doesnt correspond. It runs other CDs fine its just this one CD? are they putting somthing on CDs now that will require you to update old cd-rom drives? it does work on my father's newer vista alienware machine.

does anyone have any ideas for a solution other then replacing both of my cd rom drives? they work fine for everything else..

they are both Plextor drives if you are wondering, the only model number i could get was from my DVD drive and it is a Plextor PX-712A.

Any help would be appreciated. thx~!

I think it is time for a new drive, I/O errors generally mean hardware issues, but first you could try changing the ribbon cable.
