Thanks Jeff for all your help.
Turn out all I had to do was disconnect the Vista drive, boot to the XP drive and reformat and partition it. When I connected the Vista drive back up again the boot menu came up just like usual and everything works fine (well except for XP deleting my restore points in Vista but that is for another forum).

Delteing the restore points is a know issue. We had a post here somewhere on the restore point and how to get around it but I forgot where it is. I don't do resotre points anyway and also turn system resotre off on all my OS. If a virus gets into system resotre it is heck to get rid of it.
