Can I vent?

Postby yeshuas on Tue Sep 02, 2008 1:26 pm

Our house was to big and to expensive so we have moved into an apartment, it is like squeezing 10 lbs into a 5 lb bag. We have been moving as we can for the last week or so, and finally got most of it done and stayed in the apartment for the first time last night.

I got up this morning, made coffee and then went out to put the GPS in the car for my wife, so she can use it until she gets used to the new location etc. Well the parking area is pretty big and my wife had parked the car, so I am walking around looking for the car, I can't find it anywhere. I am heading back to ask my wife where she had parked it, and meet her coming out the door.

She says she parked it where we had been parking while we were moving, which is in the very first aisle, well it is not there. I call the police and am informed that it had been towed, by the towing company employed by the apartment complex. I call them and they tell me that they are contaracted to tow all cars from the lot that do not have a parking sticker.

Parking sticker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that was the first I had heard about a parking sticker.

The apartment office doesn't open until 9AM so I have to let my wife take my car, leaving me stranded until they open. They get to the office, as I am walking up and they greet me with a "How are you doing" etc.

I'm not doing well at all I say, because in the interim a prospective client had called and I had to tell him my car had been towed, and had to wait until the office opened, which of course he couldn't and was going to call someone else, to repair his systems.

The man that handled us when we rented the apartment gets there, I tell him about losing the job, and all he says is "I'm sorry"; it is his fault that we don't have the sticker because he didn't give us any or even bring the need for them up, and he says he is sorry!!!!!!!!!!!! I was, and am so "@&%*&% I could spit nails.

It's good to see you around again Daniel. Hope your adjusting to your new apartment and surroundings is smoother than your first day.

For what it's worth, I believe moving house ranks up there on the trauma scales with death in the family and divorce so hopefully it gets to be easier on you after your experience with your car being towed :yesnod:

I am still upset to the max. Not only did the car get towed, but I lost the income that todays work would have generated, and of course future work with this client.
Then to top it all off at first the expected me to get to the towing company on my own to get our car!!!!!! I was just about to grab this guy and take his head off, when I guess he saw I was p@$$ed and he offered to take me.

Man you can't imagine how upset I was and still am, my nerves are still shaking.

As soon as I calm down, I am going to call the main office of the management company and tell them what happened. I lost a minimum of 8 hours work today, not counting the possible future work this could have generated had he been happy with my work and fee.

Hopefully the parking sticker clause is not included in the paperwork you signed for legal reasons.

That was the problem, the guy never even mentioned the parking sticker or whatever. The whole situation was this guy Chris the regional manager fault. He never mentioned anything about us needing a parking sticker, or that if we have company past dark, they need to have this guest card in their window.

If I would have know all that crap we would have kept looking for a different apartment.

And when they said I needed to find a way to get my car from the towing company, I came unglued LOL

I said to the gal in the office, what planet are you from, either you, or Chris are going to take me to get my car, or you are going to have the towing company bring it here, and it better not have a scratch on it.

Then she started saying she needed this that and the other thing in order to give me the stickers for our cars, trying to imply it was our fault that we had not gotten the stickers.

That's ridiculous... you should absolutely demand they pay not only for the vehicle tow but for at least a month's rent as compensation for lost wages, etc.

I know all apartment complexes are different, but I was SO happy to get away from those. And I do agree with Graham. Moving has got to be one of the most stressful things I've ever done. How my wife did it 9 times growing up is beyond me. I'd have gone bonkers.

I agree with Kanaloa, I would request some compensation from the "Management Firm", as well as a letter from them apologizing for towing your car. Then I would contact my client and show him the letter, and offer him a discount on future work.

That should help with both your problems. Just remember the old saying "Hard Honey works better than Vitriolic Vinegar" :yesnod:
