Blinking Cursor Hang before Loading Screen

Postby D3LM3L on Sun Aug 10, 2008 12:55 am

Hi, I'm running Windows Vista SP1 in Boot Camp on a Mac Pro (see specs in signature), and every time I boot Vista, I get a blinking DOS cursor for a very long time, possibly up to a minute, before it goes to the screen with the green loading bar. This hang happens before the boot menu, since I have to press F8 during the cursor to go into safe mode.

What could be causing this hang? How could I fix it? Thanks.

Not many here deal with bootcamp and Macs.

Sorry we do not have the experience to deal with this.

I would try to help but I do not want to do this to my Mac that I have. It runs way too good the way it is.

I don't have a Mac, but my Vista machine was sorta booting slow like that. I couldn't get a program to work on it, because my computer has Vista X64 on it and the program would only work with a 32 bit OS, so I ended up taking out the DVD drive. I put the drive in another computer so I could install and use the program there, and my Vista machine is booting a lot faster now. So maybe your problem is similar, i.e it may be a device that is causing the hang, the device may work, just not as good as it should, or the driver for it may work, just not as good as it should.

Is there anyway I can troubleshoot or find out which device is causing the hang?

Has it always acted the same way with the slow boot and long blinking cursor, since using bootcamp?

Go to Control Panel \ Device Manager and see if you have any conflicts, yellow flags

Go into control panel \ Administrative Tools \ Event Viewer and see if anything problems
