I don't have a Mac, but my Vista machine was sorta booting slow like that. I couldn't get a program to work on it, because my computer has Vista X64 on it and the program would only work with a 32 bit OS, so I ended up taking out the DVD drive. I put the drive in another computer so I could install and use the program there, and my Vista machine is booting a lot faster now. So maybe your problem is similar, i.e it may be a device that is causing the hang, the device may work, just not as good as it should, or the driver for it may work, just not as good as it should.
