It's still crazy out there now. I just went out to pick something up from the hardware store, it's still buzzing all over the place. I haven't gone out in that mess in a decade now - and if I have my way, never will again. Viva online shopping!

Just heard about this in Southern CA.

Shots fired at Toys R Us in Palm Desert; 2 reportedly dead

----------

A gunman opened fire at a Toys R Us store in Palm Desert, killing two and causing shoppers at the busy store to scramble for cover.

Riverside County sheriff and fire officials responded to a report of a shooting and two gunshot victims at 11:32 a.m. at the toy store in the Desert Crossing Shopping Center at 72314 Highway 111, said Cheri Patterson, information officer for Riverside County Fire and Cal Fire, based in Perris.

"We have two dead individuals inside the store," Dennis Guitierrez of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department told the Associated Press. "The events of why the shots were fired is still ongoing."

Details about the shooting were still spotty, but witnesses said the scene at the store and nearby businesses was chaotic. Witnesses told TV stations that shoppers were evacuated at about 11:30 a.m. and were told a gunman was in the store.

I'm with you, online is the way to go even if it cost a tad more. I just don't have the patients to fight with those idiots.
I mean when people are breaking down doors and trampling people, or bringing a gun with you, you can keep the season.

very sad news for those of us who live out here. There is a brief cellphone video of medics trying to revive this poor man as shoppers continue to stream past to get their gifts. I feel horrible for this mans family and hope those who brought about his demise, whether intentional or not, get the justice they deserve. there is a report of video footage from a few cameras that was obtained for use in the investigation.

The report was also that the pregnant woman may have miscarried. Horrible.

This was quite the scene and drained 2 of the 8 precincts on LI of officers for crowd control. Units from my area were even sent down there (40 min drive).

All for some electronics...sad.

Maybe the retailers will wake up with a clue; this mob mentality is dangerous.

I really can't put into words, or at least words that express the disdain the actions of this type of people makes me feel. I don't only blame the people though, the blame also lays with the stores, for not providing proper security as a precaution, since something like this happens every year at this time.
Wal-Mart and the other stores where someone is injured or killed should be charged such a fine that they would make better preparations in the future.

We still have our Boxing Day sales, Dec.26 and it was just as crazy then as now. Mum took me to shop for some clothes so it was mainly women there, it was plain insanity. I had to cower in a side aisle for dear life, I was 14! I believe there will be better deals in the future as the economy tanks further. I agree with everyone, online is the way to go, unless the shipping is exhorbitant.

But it's not the stores fault for the people literally breaking down the door...

It is their fault, if they are going to spur people to such a frenzy they should provide security to at least attempt to control the chaos. The same thing happens every Black Friday it seems. They created the situation they should be held accountable for instilling a riot, and not supplying adequate measures to protect the people on their property.
They should handle the whole situation differently e.g. a lottery of sorts, or have enough police or security to force these morons to act in a civilized manner. People died and for what so someone could be the first one to buy a 42" TV or some such nonsense.
