Not a problem Jonliff, it is good that you are taking the time to work through the fix - learning is not always easy, but it does make things easier for the future :yesnod:

If you take a look at this post: http://www.pro-networks.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=82556

Follow the steps there which outline exactly how to remove your 'rogue' entries. Once that is done, you should be able to use VistaBootPRO to create a new legacy entry that points to your XP partition.

If you have any questions along the way, please post back and one of our staff or members will help you work through it :yesnod:

All Right!

Postby joniliff » Thu Sep 28, 2006 10:29 pm

Thanks a bunch....everything is working as advertised, correct boot menu, XP and Vista(5728) running normally and I'm happy!! I guess I just needed someone to hold my hand through this. Only remaining question: If I look at 'bcdedit /enum all', how would I KNOW an entry was correct or not?

Thanks again...I'm a fan, I'll download the new Beta, and I'll tell all about VistaBootPro, as well as use it on the coming installations for people on Vista when they get it!

Generally you can tell an abnormal entry by the presence of 'unknown' in any of the device paths, or for {ntldr} if it is missing a path.

The new version of VistaBootPRO 3.0 now has a diagnostic feature which helps identify improper entries, and color codes them as red in the Manage OS Entries OS list. The program will prompt you to correct the error (usually by setting a valid partition), you can also now use the View Setting All option which shows the result of a bcdedit /enum all :yesnod:

Glad you got things working, and please let us know how you like the new version of VistaBootPRO.
