Acer Aspire One OS issues

Postby Sisco22 on Thu Apr 23, 2009 8:57 pm

Hey guys,
I just got an Aspire One, and it has an 8gig SSD and i am trying to reload the OS on it, but i can't get it to load. I burnt it to a cd, and when i select the boot menu, it shows the usb dvd rom, wouldn't read anything on the disk. so i tried it from a USB thumb drive and still no luck. Does anyone have one of these and have any experience with them?
Thanks!
Adam

I think check in the BIOS what drives show up. If it does then set the CD to be first boot device and the SSD the second boot device.

Also, check if "boot to USB" is enabled in the BIOS.

What OS are you installing by the way?

Is the disk you burnt bootable? Same question would go for the USB drive. If they aren't, even if your computer is set to boot from the CD/DVD drive or USB drive, it won't work.

Hey guys,
I didn't check and see if the drive shows up in the bios, that is one thing i forgot to do. I've got the boot order set like you said Gravity. I've enabled the USB drive part as well. I am reinstalling the OS that came on it. I can't remember what its called at the moment.

I went here and followed their directions and put it on a 4gig USB thumb drive and it wouldn't boot to it either. Maybe i should have formatted it and made it bootable first?

One question i do have with these netbooks, i know some of them come with 160gig drives and all, can you swap out the 8gig SSD with a bigger drive? like a 160gig hdd? If so, i can just load xp on it or another flavor of linux and be done with it. Thanks guys!
