currently, Alaska has no sex education. I do not support abstinence only sex ed, but I believe it's a better than having nothing.

The same is true about Barack's children and every other political candidate's children on the face of the planet.

Barack's daughters are most likely going to move in with them to DC as the last I checked, they aren't going to be married or have a kid anytime within the next year.

That's my issue with this situation. Mom's preaching abstinence and then there's supposed to be the acceptance of her own daughter getting pregnant?

Look, most Democrats aren't the type to judge folks. The idea of diversity is a theme of our party, and the Republicans, to date anyway, can't exactly say that. Like someone else said here, it's the party of old, white, Christian men (mostly).

I think a lot of folks, myself included, just expect the party to own up to the fact their own candidate has her own foot in her mouth on this, and stop acting like they're suddenly the party of "understanding." For example:

Steve Schmidt told the press "We made a political determination that the American people would not object to a female candidate with a 17-year-old daughter who was pregnant."

Um, but her own mom preached abstinence. Umm hypocrisy anyone?

I like what I read on another blog bc I made the same point yesterday:
"Ultimate McCain has failed his first test of his aspiring presidential bid. What if Obama had made a similar choice? Right wings would be all over crying foul how inexperienced Obama is and how Obama lacks family value."

And that's all I have to say about that. Don't act innocent when you'd typically rip us (Democrats) apart for the same thing. We're not casting judgment on her daughter or even the family. We're casting judgment on the fact you're letting it slide because it's your own party's candidate.

No sad

You act as if Palin should've had complete control over her 17 year-old daughter. Like it's a personal screw-up that her daughter got pregnant before she was married (and before was even an adult).

But it's not. Don't forget that her daughter is a free agent. She's 17, but that doesn't mean that she doesn't make her own choices on things. I don't know think back to when you were 17... didn't you ever do anything that your parents wouldn't have wanted you to?

Come on guys; how can you personally attack somebody in this way? Her daughter went out and did something independent of her parents. It's not like by not disowning their daughter that they are sanctioning her having sex. Seriously.

If the Republican rights lunatic christian fringe (led by the likes of the PNAC and the CNP, both of which control McCain, Palin and their handlers), had it their way there would be a christian version of sharia law imposed on the US of A.

Just maybe they would stop short of stoning unwed mothers to death but some of what Palin has gotten up to in trying to cut funding to an Alaskan home for teenage moms is pretty much like casting those teen moms not as privileged as her daughter out to a life of despair and hardship:

From AlterNets 8 More Shocking Revelations About Sarah Palin:

In classic "compassionate" conservative fashion, Palin opposes programs that teach girls how not to get pregnant, lobbies against their right to decide whether to have a child, then kills social programs that exist to cushion the impact of those policies. She then has the gall to trot out her own pregnant daughter as a symbol for "family values."
