Hey guys,
Wasn't sure really where to post this, but i am trying to figure out how my wife could get a grant or something to start a daycare. We are about to move back to Alabama and my aunt had suggested to my wife to start a daycare up where they live, since there isn't anything like that up there. Would anyone have any knowledge on this?
Thanks!
Adam

She will need a business plan more than likely, no matter where you go, or who you approach. I would start with the Alabama States website.

Drawing up a business plan wouldn't be hard. I've done a couple of those. I'm just wondering if it is easy to get a grant or not.

You will also need all the proper certifications and such (least here in Louisiana) there are a lot of strings attached. My family owns an adult computer training center, we flirted with the idea of putting in a day care for a bit (the vast majority of our clients are single parents) but the insurances coupled with the state requirements vastly outweighed any benefits of having one we could see (in the end, we wound up just paying a portion of the students day care bill to help them out vs doing any kind of day care ourselves). But that is only here in LA. but do make sure you are clear on all the requirements before jumping off into it. Because kids are involved, I would bet all states have pretty strict rules (ya I know, there still manage to be plenty of scary day cares, people who I wouldn't even let mow my lawn, much less keep my kid).
Hehe point being, make sure you check with your local and state government on the requirements, so you don't get bit in the rear, like having sunk a bunch of money and time into it only to find out there is some requirement you might not be able to accommodate. (Not saying anything about you or your wife, just you know how goofy the government can be at times, no telling what they may want you to do.)
I wish you the best of luck.
cheers
David

Luckily i have an aunt down in Birmingham that has 2 daycares and is very successful with them and knows the ins and outs of it. As far as state and federal stuff. But i still have to figure out about the funding part. Luckily, everyone that lives up down there where we are wanting to put this, knows us. So the trust part won't be an issue. I have 2 kids of my own and i am leary about where they go too. So i know how parents feel.
