I wonder just how much of a role the "geek factor" and "cool factor" plays in the popularity of Firefox versus actual improved functionality.

As far as I can tell somewhere between 15 and 30% of visitors to some sites use Firefox. Of course that varies site by site country to country and tech sites are likely to have more FF users.

I think Firefox has a lot going for it but there's till a heck of a lot of work that needs to be done on it. Many of the issues I've described in this thread are plain unfixed overlooked bugs.

Well, it's never a smart idea to use an app just for coolness unless the point of it is to make something look cool... uhm, anyway....

Most of the bugs you mentioned, actually, are just unique to the v3.0 just released (Version 2.0 and below don't display those symptoms) . Firefox gets updated a lot more than a browser like IE (obviously) so I'm sure they'll be fixed in no time. v2 made it to 2.0.0.14 (14 updates) before FF 3 came along. And I thought I would have to use v2 until things got ironed out but I found v3 so polished I was able to update everything and adopt it right away. That's more then a lot of applications can say... *cough* vista *cough* lol

Although, every person has their preferences, I guess. I've used a variety of browsers including IE 6 & 7, Maxthon, Netscape, but I just happen to think Firefox has the best balance out of them all.

I'm still loving FF3 but I just had a customer today who's computer simply won't run it. I don't know what it was conflicting with but it just crashed immediately... downgraded her back to 2.0.0.14 but I'm still on 3 smile

FF3 is working very nicely here. I have to increase the font size because of my eyes but at least now FF doesn't break pages like 2.xx did. Only thing that I miss now is that there's no support for an Imageshack toolbar, which I don't really care that much about as the service really sucks now. All in all, I like it.
