Graham, could you go over exactly what you did to get rid of GRUB? I'm going to be wiping my Linux drive and doing a fresh install of Ubuntu Hardy Heron, but in case I ever need to remove GRUB it would be nice to know.

Would I be able to use an XP CD or Ubuntu CD to do the same thing? I don't have a Vista DVD available, so if you could try and come up with some equivalent commands for XP and Ubuntu that'd be great. Thanks!

If you've only had XP on that system in a dual boot with Linux and GRUB, you should be able to boot to the XP recovery console and run a /fixmbr to get rid of any changes GRUB wrote.

If the XP recovery console doesn't see all the partitions, then it will probably be necessary to let it, by deleting those it can't and then recreating them from diskpart of the recovery console.
