Man this really shocks me as I was actually in the process of working with one of the guys at our local store because I am building a new desktop. None of them, I think, even had a clue that this was going on. I went there today to get a couple of pieces and noticed a Closed sign on the door. Didn't really think anything about it. Then I went to their website and it said that they were closing down.

Searched on that and found this.

I can't believe that.

Gosh Jason I hope you don't still have anything to collect that you paid for!

Another victim of our wonderful economy. Sorry to hear the news Jason. Seems like every day there's something like this happening now.

Luckily I was on my way today to make some orders. They have really good prices on everything and just have really high quality parts and serivce. I am surprised that they went bankrupt. But, we do have many local PC Laptop stores but they are way overpriced.

For a X2 6400+ they wanted over $200 and I can get it from another place for $188 and off Pricewatch for $159. I think PC Club had it around $150 or so.

When I was building a fair number of systems for folk for a few years (one or more a week), I realized quick there wasn't really money in moving boxes. The PC market is cut-throat in terms of margins in my opinion. At least that applies here where I am and in all likelyhood elsewhere too.

There's just too many players. Those that seem to survive are the ones that can move huge numbers or those that charge astronomical prices for components. I think that's why so many of the smaller OEM builders were supplying pirated copies (FCKGW) of Windows XP at one time.

I use to shop PC Club too & I liked the reliable quality I got there, for that matter everything I ever bought there is still working even the TDK CDRW from 2001.

My PC Club closed last summer & was consolidated to a location further away furious

I liked that little store as the people working there were friendly, smart & helpful (way better that CompUSA).

They are back up and running. YAY. They ended up getting bought by a holding company and will eventually get sold again. But the good news is that our local branch is staying open and will continue to get the high end items at very good prices. smilenod

I was talking to some of the guys today and they didn't even know. I mean, they came to work and the manager told them to go home! Could you imagine that? Most of the guys are already submitting resumes to other companies but hopefully some will stay.

That's still quite scary Jason. I wouldn't pay for anything until it's in my grubby paws.
