Are you booting to the XP disk...

Warning....

XP disk may not contain the necessary drivers and you may need to slip stream the drivers into it.

Make sure you create the necessary restore disk for Vista also.

If you have already slipstream the drivers into the XP setup disk then you cna boot to the XP cd and format the harddrive. It will be gone then.

if your not sure how to slip stream its good to keep all the drivers you need on a disk or another harddrive, if u pop your XP disk in the drive on the boot screen go to your Boot option screen ie where u can chose what to boot into CD/HHD etc etc, choose your CD wait for the message to come up

"press any key to continue"

once setup is loaded format your harddrive and install XP smile

also if its using SATA u must have the drivers and also to press F6 at the VERY begining of the installing it will warn you or your laptop wont recognise any harddrives smile hope this helps smile

On some notebooks there is an issue when trying to boot into XP from the disk, this would be to do with an option in the BIOS for SATA which you'll need to slipstream with your XP disk and press F6 to install them during the XP installation.

If you don't turn this feature off in some notebooks then you'll try loading from the XP disk only to find because it can't find the SATA drivers it will not show a harddrive installed in your system. I don't think this is your issue, just a heads up that if you are unable to boot into XP from the disk you'll need to do the above to format and install XP before turning it back on, else XP won't recongize the HDD during installation.
