Hello everyone! I've read about a lot of people having network problems with Vista and only getting "local only" and I have that problem too only I also have it even with the network cable connected! I've tried three different networks (at school etc) but I can never connect to the internet.

I have disabled ipv6 and tried a lot of things but nothing works.
When typing ipconfig in cmd I get this:

Windows IP Configuration

Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address. . : (Removed by Grav!ty)
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :

Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection* 11:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :

Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection* 7:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :

Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection* 13:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :

Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection* 17:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected

I have no idea what this means but maybe you do?

About a week ago everything worked fine but not now.

I'm getting desperate huh ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED!

Thank you!!

Hi mycketbra. I've edited out your IP address as that can cause hacker problems for you smile

Try disabling IPv6 by going to the properties of your NIC and see if that helps.

EDIT: Dang I see you've already tried that.

Hang in there for some our networking experts to come along

Go to control panel and double click Network and Sharing Center so that it opens up.

Left click View Status

Left click the Properties button

Highlite "Internet Protocol Version 6(TCP/IPv6) then click Properties button

Make sure that you have Obtain an IPv6 address automatically and the Obtain DNS server address automatically checked

Do the same for Internet Protocal version 4(TCP/IPv4)

What is your standard setup you are connecting to. Do you run a modem and router or a combination OR do you run a fiber optic system like mine that I just have a router and that is it.

when vista detected that you had a network, it asked what type of network you are on....
what did you select?

Private
Public

i think there is one other option too.... i forget.
