Well it has come time to totally reinstall Vista. I was going to use my image of Vista but it did not have SP1 integrated. So I decided to install the Vista SP1 and go from there. This time I am going to Install Vista Ult., Office 2007 Ult. and my Web Expressions. Then I am going to image that and have two different ones.

I will let ya know how it goes.

Are you using the Vista SP1 integrated ISO from TechNet?

I am back up and running. When I get home tonight I am planning on posting my experience and jsut what all I did for future installs. I only have two program left to install, Spysweeper and the WHS backup software.

So far I do my computer is back to booting normal again, no more 5 minutes waits for it to get an IP address from my router.

OK

A small write up on how the install went.

Of course the first thing I did was backup all my information to another hard drive. I then preceded to boot to the Vista DVD, formated the partition, and reinstall Vista Ultimate. Once Vista Ultimate was installed I installed Office 2007 Ultimate and MS Web Expressions. I then did not install anything else. I made sure all programs were activated and inserted my Acronis workstation boot disk. I made an image to my spare data hard drive and also made an image to two DVD-R. Now that I have the images backed up for future use; I installed NOD32 and all updates necessary for all the software.
I then copied all my data back and imported all my email to Outlook and setup the email accounts. Plugged in my Motorola Q9M phone, installed the Windows Updates, restarted and then re-synced my phone.
When all was done and finish, I copied the boot.ini, ntldr, NTDETECT back to the root of the Vista drive and utilized VistaBootPro to add my XP64 installation.
Everything is running smooth at the moment. I am planning on reinstall my Spysweeper and monitor the boot process to see if it was the problem before I wiped out my system. If it is not then I will re-install my Windows Home Server software to start doing daily backups again.
Anyway, that is about it, just takes time and patients but once done the system is back to smooth running again.

Hey I'm also about to install Vista SP1 on my main system with the MSDN integrated ISO in the next day or so. I created free space on a XP partition using Partition Magic and then used XP Disk Management to create a partition and format it for Vista Ultimate X86.

It's been a long time since I had Vista installed on my main rig but I'm quite keen to see if SP1 has any major improvements over RTM.

Nice going on the process you followed Jeff, with the backups and restore images you made thumbsup

Thanks Graham

To be honest I have not seen that much improvement. One thing I need to do is transfer some big files over the network. That was a BIG problem in the pre-SP1.
