I just got myself a new notebook with Turion64 x 2 with NVidia 7150M graphics. I've checked on MS website & found that Vista Business has Aero Glass but for some reason i cannot get it to work on my notebook. The 3D Flip thing does not work either.

Is there a way to force the 3D Flip to work with Aero Glass?
Is there a way i can install the Windows DreamScene program to this Vista Business as it's not listed in the updates...unlike my Ultimate version.

Appreciate any help & advice. Thank you

Try going to Control Panel (set it for classic view), then Display>Settings>Advanced>Trouble Shoot and set Hardware acceleration to Full - I'm taking this from XP so not sure that Vista has those exact same settings but they should be similar.

Then open the run dialog box (Start and type run), type dxdiag and OK then go to the Display tab and enable all items under DirectX Features if they are not already enabled.

Also, right click the desk top, select Personalize>Windows appearance and there should be a tab or link for Classic Properties and make sure you have Windows Aero selected there.

I'd suggest you also make sure you have the latest drivers for your GPU installed from NVIDIA

It could be drivers and it may also be your power settings. See if changing that to maximum performance or disabling any power control in your BIOS makes a difference. In your bios you may also have a setting to increase the amount of RAM to make available to the graphics card - something like AGP aperture size of Video memory hole remapping.

Everything I see on the web indicates that the NVidia 7150M should have no problem displaying aero.

If they sold you this machine with the Vista Business preinstalled, you should IMO take it back and get a refund or replacement.

The manufacturer is guilty of having sold you a machine which is compatible with XP and Vista Basic _only_. This is true even if the machine is normally sold with a different flavour of Vista and "working" drivers.

Yes, you can search for hacked drivers so that you can get the Aero running anyway, but basically the nVidia 7150m does NOT support Aero anino

... (you can look up information regarding the ongoing "Vista-capable" Class Action suit in the US for more information about how manufacturers have been selling non-fully-Vista- compatible machines with Vista pre-installed) ...

I would personally recomend a replacement machine -- I mean a rig with motherboard specs like that is basically 18 months out-of-date -- or if you have installed the Vista Business yourself, then you should look online for modified drivers ; for example at Guru3D whistle

-------

FWIW I gave a similar laptop, Turion64 x2, and nVidia 7300 Go graphics ; also NOT fully Vista compatible ; but I made a deliberate choice, and I don't mind messing around with hacked drivers.

BUT the machine was bought last year, at a bargain price, I can handle the mess, and so I don't regret it --- but "last year" is not 2008, and you deserve 2008 era hardware in your new machine, instead of this 2006 era GPU (and therefore motherboard) that they have sold you instead ...

-------

For more technical details, a fully Vista-capable rig, particularly one purchased in 2008, should be DirectX 10 -capable. Your GPU is only DirectX 9 -capable.

The Vista desktop is managed by DX9 and so it is possible to hack many drivers for machines such as yours so as to run Aero in Vista Business, Enterprise, Premium, and Ultimate --- but these remain HACKS and do not magically make the machines any more Vista capable than they really are.

The only edition of Vista that can be really recommended on XP-era hardware such as yours is the Basic Edition.

Ouch....that hurts :p Well....i can't take it back to change cos i choose these hardware. Of ccourse i'm also on a budget so i had not much choice sad None the less, i choose these hardware cos i was confident that the AMD & NVidia GC would be able to support Vista with Aero. In fact, i did ask the shop people and they said they have tried it and it works.

I've pretty much checked all the settings in power & display properties but i still cannot get it to work. The only thing left is the drivers for both the chipset & the GC which is indeed the 7150M. I've been to nVidia website but could not find the actual 7150M drivers & what's worse....i don't know what chipset this notebook uses so i have not tried installing any drivers from nVidia website.

Also, i did install Vista on my own and i got the drivers i'm using now from the shop which burned it on a CD for me. I'm using the Compaq Presario V3751AU. I don't mind hacked drivers so long as it works.

Just to update.....It was the driver that was causing the no Aero Glass thing. I downloaded the 7150 driver & hacked it to work on the 7150M :D After hacking & installing it, i got Aero Glass to work & the 3D Flip thing works smile

Just one more question....how do i install the Windows DreamScene program which is part of the Vista Ultimate update but not in the Vista Business update sad

Advice & feedback is much appreciated.

Glad you got it working Scann69, I thought it was drivers smilenod

As far as I know the only way to download DreamScene is via Windows Updates so that of course restricts it to Vista Ultimate. Hey there may be warez copies available out there but we can't help you find that or provide support to get it installed in any other version of Vista but Ultimate.
