I got tired of not being able to update to SP1. So, I tried installing it from the stand alone download. Surprise, surprise it (SP1) installed completely in just 46 minutes! I know this doesn't contribute to the problem but I thought I would just pass it on.

Folks, check out this KB 948343 article at MS to see if any of the conditions apply to you, or whether you have any of the hardware referred to installed.

nice artical, Oh silly me, sp1 is installed already....
It isn't really, I was being a little sarcastic, that little gem from the artical just rubbed a bit more salt into the wound that is vista sp1.
What would really be helpful is a list of what all the error codes actually mean (and if they don't mean anything at all then please microsoft stop displaying them!!)
Been reading one or two articals about the server 2008, Seems it's a lot like vista but not as greedy (4074 still lives perhaps???), Does anybody know if the vista 64 bit drivers and the 64 bit server2008 drivers are interchangable as I'm thinking of giving it a tryout.

The majority yes, but I've found that some Vista drivers can fail to install in the 2k8 -- workarounds may be possible to install them anyway, don't know, didn't try that hard...
