well i have been looking around and figure i might as well check out these things ... it would be nice to record some shows i miss because of my night class and things like that ...
buuuuuuut i have a couple questions....
my main question is .... are there in DVRs out there that do not charge a monthly fee? dont feel like spending 2-300 on something and then still have to pay another 10-15 a month to use it ...
i was looking at a motorola DVR ... its the only brand i could find in my short time of looking that did not clearly state that charge you by the month ... anybody know about them?
does anyone know (if its possible) where to pick of a nice, free of monthly charges, DVR ?

Got an old computer that you don't use for much? Just buy a TV-tuner card for it, load up Ubuntu and MythTV, and you've got one of the best PVRs out there  |

well i found ...
Archos 250GB TV+ Digital Video Recorder ... suppose to be everything apple I-tv was not ...

but reviews on it seem tp have some compatibility issues with US... maybe it was just a few reviews of mad people ... i dont know

I have the motorola supplied by my cable company, with MOXI software, it may not be the best, but I couldnt watch TV without it.

yaaaa i would go through my cable company but i like the extra features of being able to stream things from your computer to that and play it or send files from there to my computer ... IE movies or shows i want to store if its HD gets full ...
also ill be bringing it back and forth to my parents house when i go there

I have a HTPC (Home Theater OC) that used to double as my DVR. I bought two tuners an used Snapstream Beyond TV software and the free Firefly RF remote they sent me for buying the software.
The software starts out at $70 and there is never a monthly fee, plus you get free guides, etc.
I really liked software, even with a couple bugs, but I changed from cable TV to Uverse and Uverse came with a IPTV DVR. |

Yeah, I built myself a DVR, and if you have the time, energy, and knowhow, I totally recommend that method.

You can turn your current computer into a DVR also. It's pretty easy, and unless you fold or run SETI or something, its definitely a viable option.
