'Recording' chronicles music, tech
By Ann Donahue
January 11, 2008
LRSmedia has started production on "Recording: The History of Recorded Music," an eight-part documentary series that will be narrated by Phil Ramone. The series will be a chronological exploration of how technology and music have interacted to create sound recordings.
"Artists from every genre have agreed to appear in the series, from singer-songwriters like Billy Joel and Paul Simon to rockers like Peter Frampton and music legends like Les Paul, Dave Brubeck, Smokey Robinson and B.B. King," executive producer Larry Rosen said.
Others who will participate in the series include Clint Eastwood, Quincy Jones, Clive Davis, Phil Spector, Buddy Guy and Chick Corea. "The story of American music and the story of music technology go hand in hand," said Ramone, a multiple Grammy-winning producer. "What we hear, alone and as a society, is very much influenced by the technology of the day. 'Recording' is an unusual and new look at music that forces each of us, inside and outside of the industry, to ask, 'What's next?' "

This sounds really promising as they're not limiting this to one style of music. But why the heck, (I'm really trying hard to keep this PG), is Clint Eastwood even being mentioned alongside the likes of Buddy Guy and Chick Corea? I don't get it!

It's probably not well known but Clint Eastwood has either contributed songs to or written the complete soundtracks to 15 movies.

Ya, I saw the lyrics to Gorillaz, I thought 'this can't be it'!

I'd like to see that, one of my favourite jazz pianists.

| Not sure if you could rent it but I would imagine you could. |
I'd have to to large rental place which is at least 20 miles away. I'll find it somewhere. Thanks for the legwork as I was going to do that today.

My pleasure. For that price I'd buy it.

I found it on Amazon.ca but it's $15. Whatever happened to the tanking US dollar? I mean hardware has really gotten cheaper this past year. Anyways, I'll buy this along with *nix for Dummies or similar to save the shipping charges, no point in paying for gas and time to just rent it. Hmm, time to make a post in the *nix forum.
