oooooooook as the title says ....
im a die hard PC man ... but the times are changing ... and im stubborn smile

but as i see all these kids in my school using macs in class and all that ... and hardly any other laptop my first 2 thoughts are ... glad you feel accepted now for spending 2K on a laptop and the other ... i wonder whats so "amazing" about them ...

i mean you cant custom build your mac... you cant play many games (although they finally gave in haha and now you can set up windows on them)
i mean the GUI seems pretty nifty but i have used it at school since our school is all about macs.... and well im not all that impressed

im a die hard gamer and love to build my own rigs....
even if its as little as upgrading the ram in a laptop ... i like to have that option in being able to do what i want ...

soooooooooooo
with all that said ... what can all you mac users throw at me to make me wanna go to the dark side ....

so convince me to change my ways if you have nothing better to do tongue
ill be listening thumbsup thumbsup

I'm interested in seeing this myself. Rumor has it Leopard is a lame duck, much like Vista.

I like both nowadays but I used to be a diehard Mac basher. I probably couldn't convince you either way.

I have both. I do not have Leopard though.
OK........

If you are hard core gamer then stay away from Mac even though Mac Pro runs Vista better than most PCs
If you like a PC that you can buy just about anything you want for it then go with PC and Windows

If you do not care about games and do internet, email, and anything graphics, and anything MS Office, then go with a Mac.
If you do music with iPOD and iTunes then Mac, PC suck at iTunes.
If you like creating movies then Mac
If you like creating slideshows of pics, then Mac
If you like no viri, no spyware, then Mac
If you like to take your notebook and close the lid (hybernate), raise the lid (on), close the lid, raise the lid, close the lid, raise the lid............. and it keep running and do not have to reboot every 5 minutes, then go with a Mac.
If you like an OS that runs and runs and run and runs, then go with Mac
If you like to spend a lot of MONEY up front then go with Mac.

OD folks I give more reason to go with a Mac. I, in no way am bashing PC; I am on one now. I do have a MacBook laying in the floor. If it were not for the nature of my business and helping PROnet with Vista and etc, then I would probably be 90% Mac, and 10% blazing fast PC for gaming about once a month. Once I got use to the Mac and the way it operated with the shorcut keys and etc, it made more sense than Windows does. If I could dual boot OSx/Leopard and Windows XP/Vista on my desktop PC LEGALLY then I would probably be posting in OSx/Leopard right now.
BTW: The nature of my business, I have repaired Win Server via RDC from a Mac.......... smile

thats one thing i was never really sure on ... how do they not get any spyware ... viri ... or anything?

ya macs are way overpriced i think .... i just dont know ... they are not very flexible with their prices...

how long would a normal mac last? about as long as a PC lasts?
as in staying ahead of the tech curve

Even the games are starting to get better. Companies are starting to see a market there.

I have no experience with Leopard but in my experience there are a number of useful/innovative features that are present in OS X and not Vista.

I am actually pretty sure that my next computer will be a Mac...

No spyware is due to the base system. It's just really hard to get spyware to do anything on any linux/unix system as all critical files are protected by root access only, and you never log on as root. the root user isn't even enabled by default in OS X, though it is there if you need it. As for durability, the new macs aren't as durable or long lasting as the pre-Intel macs were, at least in my opinion. They are using less high quality components, and most of the cost is just trying to pack everything in to as small a space as possible and still get it to run. The new macs had by far sooooo many more problems than the previous PPC macs did when I was at school and working for the help desk. Now, there are hard drive issues, keyboard problems, much of it is probably just the fact that their quality control has had to drop some to meet the increased demand for the product. If you like to play games, I'd say stick with a PC. Same goes with customizing. Even though you can technically upgrade the ram or the hard drive yourself in a Mac, doing so will be a long process, and could end up not working. I know someone that got ram that even stated that it was mac compatible and it didn't work right for them, so they can be very picky about what goes into them, though I'm not sure if later revisions have changed this or not. One thing to be aware of is that they also tend to run hot. Every mac I've seen (as far as laptops) run extremely warm compared to PC laptops as they all use passive cooling as much as possible to reduce noise. and with all those pretty gui effects, things can get pretty warm. While the components may be designed to withstand such temperatures, prolonged high temperature use has to reduce the longevity of the part, though you may want to replace the computer before then anyway. The operating system itself is pretty nice, though I've heard of a lot of bugs with Leopard so far, and i don't think it's everything that it's been talked up to be. Also, dont expect much help or an idea when something goes wrong. If you have a kernel panic or something stops, you may get a notification about sending data to apple, but you'll never see what may have caused the problem. Granted, windows has had some bad releases (9x/ME) but Vista is pretty solid and it takes a lot to break it from what i've seen. Yes UAC can be annoying, and not all software is "Vista compatible" yet, but you are going to face a lot more issues when Apple decides to release the next revision of their operating system compared with windows. They do next to nothing to be sure older programs work. Within a year or two, you'll hear nothing about being compatible with 10.4. Some stuff will drop compatibility on their next release. Just something else to think about when going down the mac path.
