Hi frenz, i'm trying to install linux first time, i got a ubuntu version from one of a magazine cd and it was a zip file so i extracted it to my hdd and i started the autoplay file inside it,it said its a live cd and the os starts automatically when i restart the system, so i burn the whole folder to a new cd, but when i put in the cd and restart the system, it doesn't start, tried changing the boot sequence, by keeping first as CD - ROM, but no use.. You guys pls guide me.. Thanks in advance..

When you unzipped it, what files are inside? Are there any ISO images? Just burning the folder isn't what you need to do. There should be some sort of image file in there, which you need to open with something like Nero or IMGBurn, and then burn that to a disk.

I would download Ubuntu from its website just to play it safe and rule out any external factors with the file or the CD. You'll also make sure you're getting the latest and greatest version 7.10 at

http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

Or you can also request it to be mailed to you here

https://shipit.ubuntu.com/

Your mileage will vary and it may some time to ship, I requested 10 CDs a few months ago and received it a few weeks later.
